When a person is suffering from chronic back pain, after trying other solutions, medical practitioners may suggest that a surgery is attempted to relieve the pain and solve the issue.
However, after this operation, many people not only report that the pain has not been reduced, but that there is new pain and increased pain. Some of this pain can be attributed to the natural consequences of surgery and healing; however when this pain does not go away over time and even leads to worsening pain, it can be cause for concern.
What is the cause of increased back pain after surgery?
Increased back pain after a back-related surgery can occur for many different reasons. Very often, it can be because inflammation occurred during the healing process. This can create nerve pain, tissue pain and muscle spasms.
However, persistent pain that has no clear cause may indicate that an error occurred in your surgery, or that the surgery was not successful. Sometimes unsuccessful surgeries are unavoidable, even when carried out by the most competent surgeons. But in many cases, it can be because of negligence. In this case, it might be possible to take legal action against the doctor, surgeon or hospital that was responsible for your surgery.
You may be suffering not just physically but also emotionally from the pain that you continue to suffer. Side effects can include depression and anxiety that form from the disappointment of a failed surgery and a lowered quality of life. If you believe that your failed back surgery occurred due to negligence, you should consider taking action.
