An Atlanta surgeon is accused of ordering unnecessary operations

A plastic surgeon who has appeared on the television show “The Doctors” as well as on the Discovery Channel, stands accused of having ordered several unnecessary surgeries at her Atlanta-area practice, Plastikos.

In one of many lawsuits pending against her, a former patient chronicles how she went to the see the popular plastic surgeon after she’d begun to feel ill. She notes that she’d done some research at home and discovered that leaking silicone from breast implants could result in the symptoms she’d been experiencing.

The patient argues that the plastic surgeon ordered an ultrasound of the woman’s breasts and claimed to have reviewed the results. The doctor then told the woman that it was essential to have her breast implants removed, because they were apparently leaking silicone. She was told this could be potentially fatal.

After the woman had the emergency surgery performed on her, she requested her medical records. When reviewing her pathology report, she noted that pathologists were unable to find any signs of leaks coming from either implant that was removed.

The 58-year-old Alabama resident notes that she initially thought that the report she’d been given someone else’s report. Now the woman says that she can barely stand to look at herself in the mirror. She notes that her chest is now covered with scars. She also says that she’s developed a condition called lymphedema.

Lymphedema causes acute pain and swelling in areas in and around where lymph nodes have been either damaged or removed. The patient in this case argues that an amount of lymph nodes, double what should have been removed, were taken out during surgery.

The female victim in this case was able to connect with other women who’d also suffered much the same plight at this surgeon’s hands. They’ve also filed lawsuits seeking to recover damages for having had their procedures and care botched by the surgeon and for the pain they’ve had to endure.

Depositions and investigations into this doctor’s supposed malpractice are ongoing.
