Beware of Thanksgiving DUI charges

As you make your Thanksgiving plans for later this month, don’t forget to plan for a sober ride to and from all of the festivities. You certainly don’t want to wind up with a drunk driving charge by getting behind the wheel after you’ve had a few drinks.

One of the busiest nights for liquor sales for bars is the night before Thanksgiving, or “Black Wednesday.” If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Colleges and universities are on break now and the students return home to celebrate the holiday with their families. They wind up getting together with old friends from high school and raise a few cups of cheer. Pretty soon, they are tanked and in no shape to drive home.

Even young parents with children who return home for Thanksgiving may be tempted to let the grandparents get in a little babysitting while they kick up their heels awhile with old friends.

But when you mix all the impaired drivers with the increased holiday traffic on the roads, you have a very dangerous situation on your hands. This holiday kicks off the season for an increased risk of DUI arrests and accidents with injuries. You certainly don’t want to be one in that unlucky number.

If you plan to drink over Thanksgiving, it’s best to prearrange a sober ride home. You don’t want to wind up arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. If that occurs, it’s important to get to work right away on building a stalwart defense to the allegations you’re facing.
